Development of improved genetic material
Disease-resistant, more productive clones, obtained in breeding cycles with resistance phenotyping from parent selection onward. Clonar licenses clones from its own program and develops genetic material under contract for each company's program.
Breeding stages
Stages at which disease resistance is assessed
The cycle follows the usual forest breeding scheme, from controlled crosses to the assessment of productivity and wood quality in the clonal tests. What changes is the stage at which resistance phenotyping enters: the later the assessment, the higher the cost of the discarded genotypes.
Under contract · Master Plan
Master Plan targets for 5, 10 and 15 years
In contract development, the targets for each horizon are defined and reviewed with the company's technical team.
Diagnosis and selection criteria
- Diagnosis of the program and of the priority diseases by region
- Resistance included in the selection index
- Phenotyping implemented at the selection stages of the cycle
- Clones in the current portfolio classified by disease
Full cycle with phenotyping
- Resistance phenotyping at each selection stage
- Breeding population renewed with resistant parents
- Multi-site clonal tests by planting region
Resistant clonal portfolio
- Clonal portfolio with resistance to the priority diseases
- Company's team conducting the program independently
- Plan review for the next cycle
Arrangements and deliverables
Clone licensing and contract development
Clone licensing
Clones from Clonar's own program, assessed for resistance, productivity and wood quality, licensed to the company.
Deliverable: licensed clones and assessment dataContract development
Breeding cycle conducted for the company, with its own genetic material and priority diseases.

Part of the Master Plan: genetic material, disease history, planting regions and cycle structure.

Proportion of resistant clones in Clonar trials
In Clonar's trials, fewer than 40% of clones were resistant for five of the seven pathogens assessed. If resistance is not measured, selection for growth retains susceptible clones in a similar proportion.

Next step
Proposal for clone licensing or contract development
In contract development, the work begins with a diagnosis of the current program, together with the company's breeding team.
